Electrum (green gold) ring

Custom made electrum rings are now available. Perfect as a wedding or engagement ring that's a bit different, or just for everyday wear.

Electrum - also known as green gold - is an alloy of gold and silver, which can occur naturally but in this instance was made in my workshop. Equal weights of assay quality pure gold and fine silver are melted together and cast into a bespoke ring, a process which yields a solid, single piece with no visible joins.

The process is time-consuming and difficult, but the results are a beautiful metal which is somewhere between the soft sheen of fine silver and the gentle glow of gold. It can appear anything from almost silver to a gold colour depending on the lighting. Your electrum rings will definitely draw comments and admiration, it's an extremely rare alloy in jewellery!

Because of the way the rings are made, from melting down raw metal, a popular option for wedding rings is to include an old family ring as part of the source metal - I've used grandfather's signet rings, mother's engagement rings and more, to let people carry a little bit of family history on their finger every day. I'm not sure if it counts as both "something old" and "something new" though!
